Names, Aliases
1987 Silk The Serpent Slayer, Ambassador Salvador
Used for the various pyroto mountain BBSes I was a member of.
1992 Lazarus Long
Picked up from reading the back of a Heinlein novel. I didn't read "Time Enough for Love" (for whom Lazarus Long was the main character) until 1995, when I received it as a Christmas gift from Rosemary Emery. Used for art pieces.
1994 Lazarus
Removed the "Long" bit, as it didn't fit in "CONF", an old network chat program for the WATSTAR machines in UW. Often shortened to simply Laz.
1996 Lazarius
I added an "i" after I started to use IRC, as "Lazarus" seemed too popular for my tastes (and I was often mistaken for someone else).
Medical history
When I was really young, I injured myself on my tricycle. Some neighbourhood kids had stuck tar to the wheels and I flipped when I tried to use it. I have a slight scar over my left eyebrow to remember it by.
Playing tag indoors - hardwood floors and me wearing socks. Ran into a wall, stitches over my right eyebrow. I vaguely remember being knocked out from the collision and waking up, seeing the doctor over me.
I've lost a few fingernails and a few toenails. I lost a toenail to dropping a really large rock (it seemed a boulder to me) on it. I lost one fingernail to dropping a 2x4 on it. I was pretty young for both events. When the nail finally falls off, you're left with puffy, supersensitive skin underneath. Luckily, they grow back.
I've had two dog bites, both times I was chicken shit about it. One of the dogs was a full grown German shepard. The other bite was some small mongrel.
Numerous bicycle injuries - all scrapes. Elbows, knees, shins. One especially nasty tumble when I tried zooming down the ramps of a deserted parking garage. I pretty much flew from my seat and landed on my back. Note : The floors are too slippery to perform tight turns on. Am not willing to try again.
Worst incident was back in .. '80? '82? Before '84 I'm sure. Anyway, I was running around the house.. I remember that it was a Friday after school. I leaped over a coffee table in the living room - my feet got caught on one end and my face caught the other. Blood poured from my mouth onto the carpet, though I hardly remember the pain now. Recall screaming to my sister from the bathroom, crying as I washed out my mouth, blood and water going down the drain. My mom was at work - there was about a 1 hour window where my sister and I were alone in the house after school.
Six teeth were knocked out. I had soup for a month.
Haven't had any major external injuries for a while. I have a recurring bout with ulcerative colitis.. returns every 1.5 years or so.
I wear glasses.. my eyes are really bad. but i a am still good at

And then there's the matter of my troubled facial skin... an angry peppering of scars is all that remains.. Al Pacino quality.
Machine History
Note : These dates are approximate - I really don't remember them at all.
- 1980(?) Had a Radio Shack console.. it played four variants of Pong, the controllers were mounted to the console and consisted of two sliding levers (like volume controls on mixing decks).
- 1981 An Atari 2600. Figured out the patterns to play Ms. Pac Man, Q-Bert, Space Invaders indefinitely. Other games played include Combat, Slot Racers (on advice of the salesman - it turned out to be the most boring game I've ever had), River Raid and Kaboom.
- 1982 My father got one of those Atari 8-bit machines.. I believe it was the 1200XL. I used it mainly for gaming. Typo-Attack (possibly the most fun typing tutor program ever) taught me how to type quickly.
- 1986 I upgraded to an Atari 130XE.
- 1988 For a brief period I believe I had an Atari 520ST.. but soon afterwards I had the loaded Mega ST 2, pretty much the same machine as the 520 but with a whopping 2 megs of memory! Of course, less than 10% of applications (and even less games) didn't need more than 1 megabyte, but hey, more memory never hurts. I also had the color and the monochrome monitors - the monochrome allowed for hi-res (there were only three resolutions available - low, medium, and high. The color monitors could only show the first two, the monochrome the last. Hey, that's the way it was).
- 1991 Finally moved into the world of the x86. I think my first machine was a 486-DX33, and I had the Gravis Ultrasound. Taught me DOS and Win31. Given to my sister.
- 1994 My beloved P133. Lasted me for the rest of my university years. Resides in the basement of my parent's house, as a low-traffic server. Had one of the ATI Rage OEM's.
- 1998 An overclocked Celeron 300A with 128 megs of memory, an ASUS-P2B motherboard, a SB clone card, the Matrox 200 Millenium 4meg card. 9 gigs of HD, 32x CD, etc. Now serves my dad.
- 2004 P4 3.0 GHz, 1.5 GB of memory, Radeon 9800 Pro with 256 MB of memory.
